The designs set out to illustrate this passage using the theme of living beings and the herbs of healing. Medieval Herbals in the collection of the University of Glasgow were consulted in the development of the designs. The chairs were embroidered by a group of volunteer nurses and use a combination of canvas work (needlepoint) techniques and surface embroidery.
