A
washing line to symbolise woman's domestic entrapment is hung with
beautifully crafted miniature clothing. A tiny banner with Shirley
Conran's immortal words "Life is too short to stuff a mushroom"
blows above a group of women from Irish immigrant to modern day
mother and child (wearing a Thomas the Tank Engine tee shirt).
Reminiscent
of the goddess Shiva a woman with many arms holding symbols of the
many and various roles of women stands in the centre of the banner,
Designed by Sam Ainsley and using as source material, prose and
poetry created at a writing workshop
held by the poet and writer Liz Lochhead (no
relation) the image captures the myths
and realities of being a woman.
